One day, a dog and a rooster were walking in the woods. They walked until dark and looked for a place to sleep.

The dog found a place to sleep at the foot of a large tree. The rooster slept on a branch on a tree. The next morning, when the sun rose, the rooster screamed, "Cock-a-doodle-rooster-a-doodle-do!"

This awakened a fox living nearby. He immediately went looking for a rooster and ate it for breakfast! He had an idea when he found a rooster high up in a tree.

He spoke kindly to the rooster and said he was a "friend." Dear rooster,  come down and  be us.

The wise rooster also answered with a sweet voice. Dear friends sleep at the base of the tree.

The fox did exactly what he was told. Of course, the dog woke up and was angry because  he barked angry at the fox. The fox was so scared that he ran away. Then the rooster and the dog set out for a quiet breakfast.
