The First Gold Medals for Indonesia The first worlds biggest sport event (olympic games) held in 1896 in Greece, but Indonesia had not joined it. Indonesia joined the olympic games in 1952 in Finland. Indonesia had started winning the olympic medals during in 1988 olympics in Seoul South Korea where Nurfitriyana Salman, Kusuma Wardhani, and Lilies Handayani won silver in women's archery. The 1988 Seoul Olympics seems to be starting point for Indonesia's rise in the sporting world. The olympic game in 1992 which held in Barcelona Spain was great achievement of the Indonesian team because theat was the first time of Indonesia got two gold medals from badminton. They were the sporting heroes of the country. They had brought indonesian on the first rank of women's individual and men's individual badminton respectively. After the great badminton achievement, Indonesia won a gold medal again from badminton in the 1996 Atlanta Olympic. It was from the men's double class by Rexy Mainaky and Ricky Subagja. The total medals brought home were 4 with 1 gold , 1 silver and 2 bronze, and all of them were from badminton at the time. 5.
