The Vulture

    The vulture is a large, carnivorous bird. Most vultures prefer scavenge for their food than killing it themselves. Vultures feed on dead animals and they eat whatever left. Vultures like to shred meat, skin and feathers, and only live the bones of the animal remaining.

    There are about 30 different species of vultue in the world. Vultures are found everywhere in the world, except for Australia and Antartica. The species are divided into two groups namely New World vultures and Old World vultures. You can find the old world vultures in Asia, Europe and Africa. This species is considered as eagles and hawks relatives. They are considered different from the new world vultures in a sense that it uses its spectacular sight alone in order to find the food.

    On the other hand, the new world vultures are found in Americas. Even though there are some similarities between the old world vulture and the new world vulture, zoologist believe that they are connected though evolutionary status rather than DNA. The new wold vultures are a little bit smaller than the old world vultures. The other difference is they use both sight and their tremendous sense of smell in hunting for food.

    Vultures are endangered animals. Their species are threatened with extinction. Vultures have been poisoned by eating poisonous dead livestock which have been given toxic medicine. They have also been killed by the poachers who do not want vultures to take their poaching locations. The poachers also poison the dead elephant to kill the vultures.
