    The Colosseum is an oval shaped amphitheater in the center of Rome and it is the largest amphitheater ever built, making it one of the greatest wonders of the world. Still very much intact, the Colosseum is one of the best kept ruins of the Roman Empire and this site dates all the way back as fa as AD 72 under the rule of the emperor Vespasian. The visitors can sit in the stands and see evidence of the amphitheater's intricate underground passageways and trap doors - the staging areas for erstwhile entertainment. 

    There are 80 entrances to the Colosseu-this Roman amphitheater really is huge. But even when you're in there, among all the tourist crowds, it's hard to understand the vast size of it all.
