    To avoid burglary, many houses are now complete with the alarm system. Here are easy steps to install it.

Step 1. Carefully read the installation manual that comes with the Alarm System Installation kit. Check with local officials regarding any requirements to install an alarm.

Step 2. Determine where to install an alarm keypad, paying special attention to avoid any wiring installation parallel to high voltage electrical wiring as it may induce interference and cause false alarms. Determine also where to install the control panel and siren(s) and motion detector(s).

    The falling cost of solar power has led to a boom in recent years, with more and more photovoltaic panels popping up on rooftops and backyard solar farms around the world. But what happens to all of those solar panels in a couple of decades when they reach the end of their useful life? And what about electronic devices with even shorter life spans? Those questions are at the heart of new research released by a team at Georgia Institute of Technology, where researchers looked into the impact of government policies put in place to reduce the amount of electronics waste filling up landfills.

    Beril Toktay, a professor at Georgia Tech's Scheller College of Business, said that there is a lot of concern in sustainability circles that manufacturers are making things with shorter and shorter life spans, and products are perhaps even intentionally made to become obsolete to induce replacement purchases.

    The study, which was published April 4 in the journal Management Science, focused on government policies used to encourage electronics makers to put more thought into what happens at the end of the product life cycle. Those programs, which are called extended producer responsibility (EPR) laws and are already in use in some states, have two common objectives: to have producers design their products to be easier to recycle or to boost their durability for increased device life span. However, the researchers reported that those goals are often at odds. "What we have found is that sometimes when you design for recyclability, you give up on durability, and when durability is the goal, recyclability is sacrificed," Toktay said.

    The researchers said that in some cases, EPR policies could actually lead to increased waste generation if product designers make products more recyclable but less durable, or lead to Increased greenhouse gas emissions if products are made more durable but less recyclable.

Retail Sector Projected to Grow 5 to 10 Percent

    The Indonesian Shopping Center Tenants Association (Hippindo) has projected that the retail sector will grow 5 to 10 percent this year, after having to experience a slowdown in the last three years.

    "The retail players are optimistic this year. This year, after the elections, the growth will automatically move in a positive direction," Hippindo executive Fetty Kwartati said in Jakarta on Monday as quoted by kompas.com.

    She said there had been signs of improvements in growth since the previous year, with retail industry growth expected to be higher regardless of who won the presidential election.

    Fetty said retailers had also taken the opportunity to boost sales during the voting day because the government made voting day a holiday.

    She explained that 250 local brands offered discounts on voting day. "There will be more transactions because it is a holiday. After casting their votes, groups of people will go to shops to get deals," she added.

    Despite potential political and macroeconomic challenges, she said the business climate would be improved, especially if the winning candidates offered programs that dealt with any issues.

    Fetty, the PT Mitra Adiperkasa head of corporate coffimunications, said the company targeted 15 percent growth that year, as the firm's expansion started in the first quarter of 2019, with several new outlets opened.
