A Canadian Tourist Has Died After Falling from a Popular Zipline Attraction in Northern Thailand
Local media reports say a Canadian man has died after the cable of a zip line he was traveling on snapped in Chiang Mai, northern Thailand-the latest accident to befall the popular Flight of the Gibbon tourist attraction.
According to the Bangkok Post, the man was identified as 25-year-old Spencer Charles, who was vacationing in Thailand.
Local officials in Mae-on district told the Post that the accident happened late on Saturday morning when a cable was reportedly disconnected shortly after Charles was released from the start of the zip line, causing him to fall more than 300 feet to the creek below.
The year before, an American woman and a Chinese woman, crashed into each other while riding the zip line and were hospitalized.
According to a Post report of 2017, the husband of the Chinese woman claimed in a statement to a Thai court that there was no first aid kit available on the site at the time of the accident, while the American woman suffered from brain trauma and lost vision in one eye as a result.
The Flight of the Gibbon bills itself as "a chance to encounter wild gibbons in their natural habitat" by zip lining through "the ancient Thai rainforest." It says it has "the highest international safety standards"; land "fully trained staff" it calls "Sky Rangers."
It was founded in 2007 by New Zealander David Allardice, according to its website, and operates zip line attractions in Chiang Mai and in the Thai capital Bangkok
The company has accepted full responsibility for the accident, said an official cited by the Post, and an investigation is underway.

WHAT DID YOU DO AT THE WEEKEND?
The next time a friend or colleague tells you about their fantastic weekend, wait a moment before you start feeling jealous - maybe they are inventing it all!
A survey of 5,000 adults in the UK has shown that one person in four invents details about their weekend because they want to impress their friends. When they are asked, 'Did you have a good weekend?' they don't like to say that they just stayed at home and watched TV, because it sounds boring. So they invent the details. The most common lie that people tol was 'I went out on Saturday night', when really they didn't go anywhere. Other common lies were 'I had a romantic meal', 'I went to a party', and 'I went away for the weekend'.
In fact, in the survey, 30% of people who answered the questions said that they spent their weekend sleeping or resting because they were so tired at the end of the week.
Another 30% said that they needed to work or study at the weekend. Psychologist Corinne Sweet says that people often don't tell the truth about their weekend 'because we don't want to feel that everyone else is having a better time than us, if we have had a boring weekend doing housework, paperwork, or just resting after a tiring week at work. She also believes that networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter may be encouraging us to invent details about our social lives. People can create an illusion of who they want to be and the life they want to live,' says Corinne, and of course they want that life to seem exciting.
