Before New York was New York, it was a small island inhabited by a tribe of the Lenape peoples. One early English rendering of the native placename was Manna—hata; speculated to mean "the place where we get wood to make hence the borough of Manhattan. In the early 1600st the Dutch East India Company sent an Englishman, Henry Hudson, on an expedition for the Northwest Passage. In what's modern-day Manhattan, Hudson found an island and river (which became his namesake, the Hudson), exploited for trapping beaver and trading their furs. To establish the Dutch footprint in the New World: they planted a trading post on the southem tip of the island and called it New Amsterdam; after their capital city in the Netherlands. New Amsterdam was established in 1625. The settlement reached from the southem tip of Manhattan to what today is Wall Street, generally believed to take its name from the wooden boundary the Dutch built to keep out Native Americans: from whom they took the land. The wall also kept out the British: rivals to the Dutch in early commerce and colonization of the United States. In 1664: England sent four warships to New Amsterdam to fight for the land. The direct general of the Dutch holdings in regiont Peter Stuyvesant, surrendered without bloodshed. King Charles II granted the tenitory to his brother, James Stuart, Duke of York (and later king himself). The Duke of York is a noble title based on York, an important historic city in northem England. New York tate—whose an was also taken from Native Americans into British colonial possession—was also named for him. Signs of Dutch rule in New York City remain, however. Brooklyn and Harlem are named for Dutch towns: for instance. Corona disease (Covid-19) becomes the burgeoning issue all over the world. This disease has been infecting million people in 206 countries, including indonesia. As instructed by our government, we have to stay at home and do “social-distancing” in order to stop the spread of the virus. However, there are several people who still don’t understand the importance of the instructions and break the rule. In fact, there are some main reasons why the instructions are declared. Staying at home is the first thing that we can do as contributions to this issue. Why? Because when staying at home, at least we don’t meet other persons, except our family. We can also avoid touching things like in a public transportation or facility which may contain the virus from the virus carriers who have touched it before. Talking about “social distancing”, when there’s an urgent situation which makes people go outside (buying medicine or food), we are asked to maintain at least 1 metre (3 feet) distance between ourselves and anyone who is coughing or sneezing. For example, when we go to a market, there are a lot of people who can suddenly cough or sneeze. By trying this effort, we won’t get the droplets from their nose or mouth. It really helps us to minimize the risk of getting infected by this virus because we never know the virus carriers around us. This issue has to get more attention from us, so we have to support our government by doing those efforts. We have to collaboratively stop this life-threatening disease. It can be hypothesized from the text that….
